Given Ida Baker's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 250th, while Mariner is ranked 573rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ida Baker was led to victory by Julianna Nieves and Maia Berdebes. Nieves scored 15 points along with eight steals and seven rebounds, while Berdebes scored 26 points along with nine rebounds and four steals. Berdebes hasn't dropped below two steals for 12 straight games.
Ida Baker has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 13-5 record this season. As for Mariner, their loss was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-11.
Ida Baker on the road again on Thursday and play against Estero at 6:30 p.m. on January 25th. Estero has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 19. As for Mariner, they will look to defend their home court on Thursday against Oasis at 6:00 p.m. Oasis comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 25 points in their last four games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
