On Wednesday, the Cardozo Clerks faced the Ballou Knights in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Cardozo managed a 56-52 win over the Knights. For Cardozo, this counts as revenge for the 57-55 defeat the Knights walked away with the last time they faced one another back in January of 2023.
Cardozo's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cameron Young, who scored 14 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Wisdom Carter, who scored 13 points.
Ballou's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lorenzo Martin, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. It was the first time this season that Martin posted two or more blocks. Another player making a difference was Taevon Deal, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds.
Cardozo's victory bumped their record up to 16-3. As for Ballou, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 11-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cardozo will take on the Ramblers at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in District of Columbia (Eastern is ranked 17th, while the Clerks are ranked seventh). As for Ballou, they will head out on the road to challenge the Monarchs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. That match will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Andre Mason Jr. and Samaud Benton-McDonald.
