Apple Valley and Victor Valley are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. The Apple Valley Sun Devils will take on the Victor Valley Jackrabbits at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Apple Valley's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four games.
If Apple Valley beats Victor Valley with ten runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. Apple Valley didn't even let Lancaster on the board on Saturday, marking Apple Valley's second-straight 10-0 shutout. The Sun Devils might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by nine runs or more this season.
Beau Lloyd made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over six innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isaiah Reveron, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and one double. Tyler Redona also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Apple Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .310 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Victor Valley didn't have quite enough to beat Serrano on Thursday and fell 4-3. The Jackrabbits have struggled against the Diamondbacks recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.
Tyler Aguilar was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out six batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk).
At the plate, Victor Valley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Matthew Yepez, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave Yepez a new career-high.
Apple Valley's record is now 6-1. As for Victor Valley, they now have a losing record of 2-3.
Victor Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Apple Valley has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .475. It's a different story for Victor Valley, though, as they've only averaged .338. Will they be able to contain Apple Valley's hitters?
Apple Valley couldn't quite finish off Victor Valley in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 and fell 11-9. Can Apple Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
