The Oak Glen Golden Bears will head out on the road to challenge the Bridgeport Bulldogs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Oak Glen will bounce into Saturday's contest after beating Catholic Central, who they had gone 0-5 against in their five prior meetings. The Golden Bears claimed a resounding 28-0 victory over the Crusaders. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Golden Bears' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' football rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 44th in West Virginia, while the Crusaders are ranked 607th in Ohio).
Logan Murray had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 137 yards and two scores. Another player making a difference was Maddox Bowen, who threw for 167 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 84.6% of his passes.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Oak Glen proved: they limited Catholic Central to a paltry 2.4 yards per carry. While two picked up at least four total tackles, Murray stood above the rest. He rushed for 137 yards and two touchdowns. Oak Glen didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 5.9.
Oak Glen didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Cameron Carter.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bridgeport). They blew past Valley, posting a 43-6 win. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.
Oak Glen better keep an eye on Jaki Threet. He was instrumental in Bridgeport's win, rushing for 223 yards and five scores on only 12 carries. Threet's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 130 rushing yards.
The win made it two in a row for Oak Glen and bumps their season record up to 5-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 0 points in those games. As for Bridgeport, the win was their first at home , bumping their record up to 3-4.
Saturday's game might be decided on the ground. Oak Glen has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 235 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Bridgeport struggles in that department as they've been averaging 250 rushing yards. There's a good chance Saturday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
