Bernards is on a nine-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Lakeland Regional is on a three-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Bernards Mountaineers will take on the Lakeland Regional Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bernards knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six contests -- so hopefully Lakeland Regional likes a good challenge.
With a playoff game on the line, Bernards rose to the challenge on Friday. They breezed by Sussex County Tech at home to the tune of 48-0. Considering Bernards has won ten matches by more than 23 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Bernards' success was spearheaded by the efforts of Connor Laverty, who threw for 134 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and Logan Stevens, who rushed for 57 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Jake Caldwell got in on the action as well, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Lakeland Regional beat Caldwell 33-28 on Friday.
Collin Sabric and Jake Spear were among the main playmakers for Lakeland Regional as the former threw for 310 yards and four touchdowns and the latter picked up 166 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Spear was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 65 yards.
Their wins bumped Bernards to 11-0 and Lakeland Regional to 8-3.
