The Luis Valdez Leadership Academy Lions are taking a road trip to square off against the Summit Tahoma Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Luis Valdez Leadership Academy will be strutting in after a victory while Summit Tahoma will be coming in after a loss.
On Wednesday, Luis Valdez Leadership Academy beat Apostles Lutheran 3-1. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Lions.
While Luis Valdez Leadership Academy might've won, it sure wasn't easy: Apostles Lutheran scored at least 21 points in every set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 16-25, 25-21, 25-23.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Luis Valdez Leadership Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andrea Mata Alejo, who had six kills and two aces.
Mata Alejo wasn't the only good servers: Luis Valdez Leadership Academy was lethal from the service line and finished the match with ten aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least ten aces in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Summit Tahoma was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their 11th straight defeat. They came up short against Stratford Prep, falling 3-0.
The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Stratford Prep scored at least 17 points in every set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-19, 25-21, 25-17.
Summit Tahoma's defeat dropped their record down to 0-11. As for Luis Valdez Leadership Academy, their win bumped their record up to 9-5.
Everything went Luis Valdez Leadership Academy's way against Summit Tahoma in their previous meeting back in September, as Luis Valdez Leadership Academy made off with a 3-0 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
