Sonora has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Ozona Lions at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Texas (Sonora is ranked 1282nd, while Ozona is ranked 1274th).
Last Tuesday, Sonora was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 45-44 to Sterling City. Sonora has struggled against Sterling City recently, as their match on Tuesday was their third consecutive lost matchup.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Kameryn Aguero, who scored 17 points along with five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Evan Arredondo was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with nine rebounds and four blocks.
Meanwhile, Ozona's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their tenth straight loss. They were outmatched by Eldorado on the road and fell 73-30. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss Ozona has suffered yet this season.
Sonora's loss was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 9-12. As for Ozona, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost 11 of their last 12 matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Sonora against Ozona when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 70-8 victory. With Sonora ahead 38-4 at the half, the match was all but over already.
