Basketball Recap: Cameron Hartsoe's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Colonial Heights over Nottoway

If Colonial Heights was riding high fresh off their 75-46 takedown of King William two weeks ago, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Colonial Heights Colonials took a 69-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Nottoway Cougars. The Colonials were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 67-50.

Colonial Heights' defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cameron Hartsoe, who went 8 for 14 en route to 20 points in addition to six rebounds and three blocks. Those three blocks gave Hartsoe a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Cartier Coleman, who went 8 of 16 on his way to 20 points and eight boards.

Even though they lost, Colonial Heights smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in three consecutive games.

Nottoway's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Anton Carter Jr, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Xxavier Mccain, who went 8 for 16 en route to 18 points along with six boards and three steals.

Colonial Heights dropped their record down to 4-7 with the loss, which was their third straight at home. As for Nottoway, they moved to 2-6 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Colonial Heights didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 78-63 defeat against Dinwiddie on the 14th. As for Nottoway, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 60-49 victory against Amelia County on the 14th.
