Baseball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Marion County

Marion County waltzed into their contest on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Thomas Nelson Generals with a sharp 15-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Knights, who have now won 12 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Luke Mattingly made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two runs and one double.

In other batting news, Wyatt Thompson was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one triple. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Landon Craig, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Marion County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .559. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Thomas Nelson only posted an OBP of .300.

Marion County's win bumped their record up to 17-8. As for Thomas Nelson, they dropped their record down to 1-18 with the loss, which was their 13th straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Marion County will host Lincoln County at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Thomas Nelson, they will be playing at home against Caverna at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
