Burroughs and Hesperia are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2021, but likely not for long. The Burroughs Burros will head out to challenge the Hesperia Scorpions at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Burroughs lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Barstow, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Friday's game. Burroughs blew past Barstow 10-3 on Friday.

Jacob Holden and Kanon Schiller made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Holden struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Schiller struck out six batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. At bat, Holden went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Schiller scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Jake Maduena was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Joaquin Vasquez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Burroughs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
While Hesperia didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Serrano on Friday as Hesperia made off with a 13-3 victory. Winning may never get old, but the Scorpions sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Like Burroughs, Hesperia also got a great game from a two-way player: Ralph Herrera. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits (and only one walk). What's more, Herrera gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 3-for-4. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in February of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josh Flores, who scored a run and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4. Nick Thomas also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.
Hesperia pushed their record up to 6-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. As for Burroughs, their record is now 8-2.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Burroughs hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .361. However, it's not like Hesperia struggles in that department as they've averaged .342. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Burroughs suffered a grim 15-7 defeat to Hesperia in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can Burroughs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
