The Terre Haute South Vigo Braves will venture away from home to challenge the Bloomfield Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
On Monday, Terre Haute South Vigo came up short against Mooresville and fell 12-7. The Braves have struggled against the Pioneers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Matthew Ewing was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season. Another player making a difference was Noah Fields, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bloomfield). They blew past White River Valley 29-4 on Monday. Considering the Cardinals have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
Chase Wiles and Breckin Steves made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Wiles pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Steves pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Wiles has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Wiles went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Steves got on base in three of his five plate appearances with three runs and one double. Those three hits gave Wiles a new career-high.
In other batting news, Dillon Warnick was incredible, getting on base in five of his six plate appearances with five runs, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those five runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jeff Porter, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with three runs and three RBI.
Bloomfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .647. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Bloomfield's record is now 5-7. As for Terre Haute South Vigo, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-10.
Terre Haute South Vigo beat Bloomfield 6-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Braves since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
