Basketball Recap: Southern Wake Academy Drops Highest Score of Season Against St. David's

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Southern Wake Academy). They blew past the St. David's Warriors 80-58 on Friday. That's more bragging rights for the Lions, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Southern Wake Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kobe Plata, who shot 70% from the field en route to 16 points in addition to eight assists and five steals. That's the most steals Plata has posted since back in January. Another player making a difference was Tony Lopez, who put up 14 points and five steals.

They weren't the only ones working in the assist department: Southern Wake Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as St. David's only racked up nine.

St. David's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Marcus Green, who went 6-for-10 on his way to 17 points. Thanks to that strong game, Green now owns an excellent 45.1% field goal percentage. Giorgios Panagos was another key player, putting up 17 points.

Southern Wake Academy now has a winning record of 3-2. As for St. David's, the defeat snapped their winning streak at four games and leaves them with a 5-2 record.

Southern Wake Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 63-54 loss against Grace Christian on the 29th. As for St. David's, they will be playing at home against St. Christopher Academy at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
