The Bonita Vista Barons will head out on the road to square off against the Imperial Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Bonita Vista had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the six-run drubbing they dealt Point Loma on Monday. Bonita Vista was the clear victors by an 8-2 margin over Point Loma. The Barons haven't had any issues with the Pointers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.
Danica Aboytes was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. What's more, she posted five strikeouts, the most she's had since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting four hits from her four at bats.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Aryanna Salazar, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Ariana Magdaleno was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Bonita Vista was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Imperial won against Mission Bay on Monday with eight runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Monday. Imperial's pitcher stepped up to hand Academy of Our Lady of Peace an 8-0 shutout. The win was familiar territory for the Tigers, who have now won four matchups in a row.
Hannah Johnson was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Raegan Ray, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Bonita Vista's record is now 7-0. As for Imperial, their record is now 5-2.
Bonita Vista skirted past Imperial 2-1 in their previous matchup two weeks ago. Does Bonita Vista have another victory up their sleeve, or will Imperial turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
