Sutton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kyla Griess, who posted eight points and seven rebounds. Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Amherst, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Overton 48-45. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Broncos have posted since January 17, 2025.
Amherst's win came from a few key players that Sutton will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Brynley Mattox, who almost dropped a double-double with 14 points and nine assists. Lily Vavra was another key player, putting up 11 points in addition to five boards and four steals.
Amherst smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 12 consecutive games.
Sutton's record now sits at 20-7. As for Amherst, their record is now 19-6.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Sutton has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 25.4 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Amherst struggles in that department as they've been averaging 34.7 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
Sutton beat Amherst 57-44 in their previous matchup back in February of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mustangs since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
