South Gallia hasn't had much luck against Eastern recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Rebels will head out to square off against the Eagles at 5:00 p.m. South Gallia has given up an average of 16.3 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
South Gallia is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell 20-16 to St. Joseph Central on Saturday. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game on Friday (ten), the Rebels still had to take the loss.
Alyssa Waugh was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and 17 unearned) runs off 12 hits. Waugh was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two triples, five RBI, and three runs. Those triples marked the first that she has hit this season.
In other batting news, Michaela Summers was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. She also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Gracie Harrison, who went 1-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run.
Eastern came out on top against Northwest on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run sixth inning. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Mohawks 7-6. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Eagles have posted against the Mohawks since March 27, 2017.
The team relied heavily on Aubrey Quillen, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one triple.
Eastern is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-2-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.9 runs on average over those games. As for South Gallia, their loss dropped their record down to 2-13.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. South Gallia has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Eastern struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
South Gallia suffered a grim 31-4 defeat to Eastern when the teams last played last Wednesday. Can the Rebels avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
