Highland had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 7-13 to make it four. They came up short against the Munster Mustangs, falling 15-3. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 13-3 back in April.
Evie Rivera made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and two doubles. Hailey Thomas was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
As for Munster, they have been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games.
On Munster's side, Ally Compton and Kaylee O'Connell made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Compton struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits (and not a single walk). Meanwhile, O'Connell tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Compton has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. At the plate, Compton went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and three doubles, while O'Connell went 3-for-5 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Those three doubles gave Compton a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Miah Almaguer, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Melanie O'Connor, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Highland will take on Hanover Central at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Munster, they will challenge New Palestine at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
