After two games on the road, Harlingen is heading back home. They will finish 2023 at home by hosting the Edinburg North Cougars at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, both teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Last Tuesday, Harlingen sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 62-60 win over United South.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Harlingen to victory, but perhaps none more so than Luis Rodriguez, who scored 30 points. The match was Rodriguez's fifth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Ruben Gonzalez, who scored 18 points.
Meanwhile, Edinburg North entered their tilt with Rio Grande City with three consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with four. Edinburg North took down Rio Grande City 55-38 on Thursday. Given Edinburg North's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 328th, while Rio Grande City is ranked 687th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Harlingen has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 17 of their last 18 games, which provided a nice bump to their 21-3 record this season. As for Edinburg North, their win bumped their record up to 18-7.
Harlingen skirted past Edinburg North 55-52 when the teams last played back in December of 2022. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Edinburg North's Cristian Faz, who scored 21 points along with four steals. Now that he won't be playing on Thursday, will it be that much easier for Harlingen to walk away with another win? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
