If the Native American Community Academy Eagles were riding high off their 63-33 takedown of the Chesterton Academy Saints on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Native American Community Academy fell 64-57 to Mountainair on Saturday. Native American Community Academy was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Mountainair apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.
Native American Community Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Makeda Casiquito, who scored 22 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Casiquito has scored all season. Natasha Lucero was another key contributor, scoring 16 points.
Native American Community Academy now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Mountainair, the victory makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-9.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Native American Community Academy will be staying on the road on Monday to face off against Santa Fe Prep at 6:00 p.m. on January 15th. As for Mountainair, they will square off against Chesterton Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (Chesterton Academy is ranked 145th, while Mountainair is ranked 120th).
