The Santa Maria Saints are taking a road trip to square off against the Minarets Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Santa Maria sitting on three straight victories and Minarets on five.
Santa Maria is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. They skirted past Foothill 5-4. That's two games straight that the Saints have won by just one run.

Bryce Alejo was excellent, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Santa Maria's success: when he posts at least three hits the team is 3-1 (and 7-9 when he doesn't). Oscar Sedano also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Meanwhile, Minarets got the win against Firebaugh on Friday by a conclusive 12-1. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won 12 contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Jamie Spurgeon made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. Spurgeon was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with four RBI, two doubles, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Brody Rettig and Amari Mattier did most of the damage at the plate: Rettig went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two doubles, while Mattier went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those three runs gave Mattier a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Killian Paschall, who went 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one RBI.
Minarets was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .520. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in five consecutive matchups.
Minarets' record is now 21-8-1. As for Santa Maria, the win got them back to even at 10-10.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Santa Maria hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Minarets struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
