The Statesboro Blue Devils entered their tilt with the East Laurens Falcons with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Statesboro took down East Laurens 60-44 on Tuesday. Given Statesboro's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 24th, while East Laurens is ranked 111th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Statesboro's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Raylin Grant, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. Those ten rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. Mike Goodman was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.
When it comes to explaining why East Laurens lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kyan Snead. Despite the final result, he scored 20 points. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Rashund Washington Jr. , who scored ten points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Even though they lost, East Laurens were working as a unit and finished the game with 19 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Statesboro only racked up eight assists.
Statesboro's win bumped their record up to 7-1. As for East Laurens, their loss dropped their record down to 3-1.
Statesboro will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Bryan County at 7:00 p.m. on December 27th. As for East Laurens, they will head out on the road to face off against Johnson County at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
