The regular season was a success, but the real challenge begins now, in the postseason. This Friday Noxapater (8-3) takes on Stringer (9-3) in the first playoff game of the year. After losing their last games, neither team wants to let this one slip away.
Last game was the first rocky defensive outing for Noxapater this year. Things didn't go well at all for it last week, where the team lost 36 - 0 to Nanih Waiya. Sophomore Raheem Hathorn didn't go down without a fight, though. He put up some defensive resistance with 12 tackles.
Meanwhile, Stringer put forth a good scoring effort two games ago and even improved upon it last game, but that didn't prove quite enough. It was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap last week as it fell 42 - 38 to Sacred Heart. The defeat came about despite a quality game from junior Cayleb Dyess, who tossed the ball for 264 yards and three TDs. Dyess also provided one of the most memorable plays in the game by penetrating the defense for a 94-yard TD scamper in the second quarter.
The last time they met, Noxapater got away with a 27 - 21 win over Stringer. The rematch might be a little tougher for Noxapater since the team will be on Stringer's home field this time. We'll soon find out whether that makes a difference or not.
