Watauga and Mountain Heritage are an even 4-4 against one another since November of 2017, but not for long. The Watauga Pioneers will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Mountain Heritage Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on December 8th. Hopefully Watauga focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Tuesday.
Last Tuesday, Watauga was able to grind out a solid victory over Daniel Boone, taking the game 55-48. Given Watauga's advantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 22nd in North Carolina, while Daniel Boone is ranked 170th in Tennessee), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Kate Sears, who scored 26 points along with 7 rebounds. The match was her third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Charlotte Torgerson, who scored 14 points.
Meanwhile, Mountain Heritage had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 30.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Tuesday. They walked away with a 44-36 victory over Pisgah.
Their wins bumped Watauga to 3-1 and Daniel Boone to 3-4.
Watauga was able to grind out a solid win over Mountain Heritage in their previous matchup back in December of 2022, winning 48-41. Does Watauga have another victory up their sleeve, or will Mountain Heritage turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
