Tanque Verde has gone a perfect 4-0 against Thatcher recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Hawks will challenge the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Tanque Verde has nine straight victories, Thatcher has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Tanque Verde's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Catalina with a sharp 18-0 win. Considering the Hawks have won 14 contests by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Claire Achilles was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.
In other batting news, Tanque Verde got a massive performance out of Camila Canchola, who scored two runs while going 3-for-3. What's more, Canchola posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in February. Sara Hoagland was another key player, scoring a run and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3.
Tanque Verde always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .963. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Thatcher came up short against Valley Christian on Tuesday, falling 14-3.
Tanque Verde's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 19-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.8 runs over those games. As for Thatcher, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.
Everything went Tanque Verde's way against Thatcher in their previous meeting back in March of 2024, as Tanque Verde made off with a 12-1 victory. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
