Porter Ridge is 7-1 against Cuthbertson since August of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Pirates will square off against the Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Porter Ridge and Sun Valley meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Pirates took an 11-7 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Spartans.
Despite their loss, Porter Ridge saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Rai'Shawn Elmore, who picked up 89 receiving yards and one score, was perhaps the best of all.
Meanwhile, Cuthbertson was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were three points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 31-28 heartbreaker at the hands of Marvin Ridge. On the bright side, the 28- point effort marked the Cavaliers' highest-scoring game to date.
Porter Ridge will have to contain Mason Iovino as he made an impact in Cuthbertson's last game. He rushed for 311 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 8.6 yards per carry. Iovino really tore up the turf during one magnificent 78-yard run.
Cuthbertson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Patrick Laughlin and Wyatt Edwards, who each picked up one interception apiece. Another thorn in Marvin Ridge's side was Micah Carsto, who forced one fumble and made 13 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Porter Ridge's loss dropped their record down to 6-4. As for Cuthbertson, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Porter Ridge has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 159.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Cuthbertson struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 166.4 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything went Porter Ridge's way against Cuthbertson in their previous matchup back in September, as Porter Ridge made off with a 42-17 win. Will the Pirates repeat their success, or do the Cavaliers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
