The Newman Smith Trojans will venture away from home to face off against the North Mesquite Stallions at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 883 yards in their previous games.
Newman Smith's defense heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Friday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Molina 65-0. The Trojans' offense checked out after the first half but had enough points banked to take the game anyway.

10/04/24 vs North Mesquite | 40 |
Axel Lofstrand looked great while leading his team to the win, throwing for 147 yards and two touchdowns on perfect 8-for-8 passing. What's more, he posted two rushing yards, the most he's had since back in October of 2024.
Newman Smith didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Elijah Harrison and Gabe Haesacae. Harrison got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, North Mesquite lost to Creekview on the road by a 59-43 margin on Thursday. The Stallions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Newman Smith will need to focus on slowing down Terrance Collins, one of several North Mesquite players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for 143 yards and three TDs. Another player making a difference was Julien Simpson, who rushed for 124 yards and one score on only nine carries.
The victory made it two in a row for Newman Smith and bumps their season record up to 2-2. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points over those games. As for North Mesquite, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-4.
Friday's contest might be decided on the ground. Newman Smith has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 167.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like North Mesquite struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 232.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Everything came up roses for Newman Smith against North Mesquite in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 48-13 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
