Alcoa (Tenn.)
and
Bixby (Okla.)
extended the nation's longest high school football state championship win streaks over the weekend.
RECORD BOOK:
All-time championship win streaks
In Tennessee, Alcoa became just the third program in history to win 11 or more state titles consecutively, joining
Saint Louis (Honolulu, Hawaii)
from 1986-99 and
Washington (Sioux Falls, S.D.)
from 1951-64. The Tornadoes (14-1) knocked off
Pearl-Cohn (Nashville)
47-27 on Saturday in the Division I Class 4A final to extend their run of success.
Senior Jayson Moll led Oklahoma state champion Bixby with over 1,500 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns on the season. He ran for 176 yards and a score in the title game victory. (PHOTO: Ron Lane)
In Oklahoma, Bixby capped a season of dominance with a 31-17 victory over
Owasso
in the Class 6A Division I final to capture its eighth consecutive crown. Just 10 programs in history have won eight or more in a row. The Spartans outscored 785-171 this fall.
There are several programs that have seen long streaks end already this season.
Hammond (Columbia, S.C.)
saw its run stop at eight while
Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.)
,
Dallas Christian (Mesquite, Texas)
,
Fort Hill (Cumberland, Md.)
,
Marion Local (Maria Stein, Ohio)
and
Phoebus (Hampton, Va.)
all saw streaks of four straight end.
