The Gilbert Christian Knights are taking a road trip to square off against the ALA - West Foothills Guardians at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Gilbert Christian has given up an average of 15.2 runs per game this season, so hopefully the team got some pitching drills in this week.
Gilbert Christian came up short against Safford on Monday, falling 18-4. The Knights have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Gilbert Christian saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Layhlah Manley, who scored a run while going 1-for-3. Abigale Trask also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for ALA - West Foothills, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. Everything went their way against Blue Ridge on Friday as ALA - West Foothills made off with a 15-0 victory. The Guardians' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Ava LaHair was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. LaHair was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, three RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Madelyn Caines was a standout: she scored two runs and stole Two bases. while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Olivia Gonzalez, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
ALA - West Foothills was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in three consecutive matches.
The win got ALA - West Foothills back to even at 2-2. As for Gilbert Christian, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Gilbert Christian has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like ALA - West Foothills struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
