The Westminster Christian Warriors will face off against the Mater Academy Charter Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Westminster Christian sitting on three straight victories and Mater Academy Charter on five.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Westminster Christian and TERRA Environmental, and Westminster Christian kept the tradition alive. The Warriors came out on top against TERRA Environmental by a score of 8-4 on Wednesday.
Milan Porras looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in February.
At the plate, Westminster Christian got a massive performance out of Gabriel Mejia, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most hits Mejia has posted since back in February. Austin Wiegandt was another key player, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run and two runs.
Westminster Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .452. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Mater Academy Charter sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-9 win over Key West on Wednesday.
Alfrin Rosario was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Eiker Noguera, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-3. He has become a key player for Mater Academy Charter: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7-1 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Brandon Lorenzo, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.
Westminster Christian's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-9-1. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. As for Mater Academy Charter, their victory bumped their record up to 14-7-1.
Westminster Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Mater Academy Charter when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 3-1. Will the Warriors repeat their success, or do the Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
