The Franklin Wildcats will challenge the Rodriguez Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Franklin 3.7, Rodriguez 1.4) so any runs scored will be well earned.
Franklin fought the good fight in their extra-innings game against West Park on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Panthers by a score of 3-1. The loss was the Wildcats' first of the season.
Franklin saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Dylan Minnatee, who went 1-for-3 with one run.
Meanwhile, Rodriguez had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs) and they went ahead and made it four on Tuesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Dragons a 25-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won five matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Austin Krebs looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Jack Jacobson, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with six RBI, four runs, and two stolen bases. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Benjaman 'BJ' Smith, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Rodriguez hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive contests.
Rodriguez's victory bumped their record up to 7-2. As for Franklin, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 5-1-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Franklin has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Rodriguez struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
