The Ayersville Pilots will head out on the road to take on the Continental Pirates at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Ayersville has six straight wins, Continental has 24 straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Saturday, Ayersville earned a 37-24 win over Stryker. Given Ayersville's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while Stryker is ranked 525th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ayersville relied on the efforts of Taylor Craft, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and five blocks, and Ally Schindler, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Schindler hasn't dropped below two steals for 11 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendra Waldron, who scored six points along with five rebounds.
Meanwhile, Continental came up short against Montpelier on Saturday and fell 50-39.
Ayersville pushed their record up to 19-1 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. As for Continental, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-20.
Everything came up roses for Ayersville against Continental when the teams last played back in February of 2023 as the team secured a 51-24 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for Ayersville since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
