The Cambridge Trojans's found some homefield redemption this week after a tough overtime loss to South Loup on Tuesday. Cambridge sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 57-54 win over Loomis. For Cambridge, this counts as revenge for the 60-40 loss Loomis walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2022.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Cambridge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Krayton Ruggles, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Ruggles grabbed two or more steals. Brohdey Wood was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Loomis' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cale Nelson, who scored 14 points. Those 14 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Ben Trompke, who scored 14 points.
Cambridge's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. As for Loomis, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cambridge will take on Cozad at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Cozad will be coming into the match with an undefeated record on the line. As for Loomis, they will head out on the road to face off against Ansley/Litchfield at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Ansley/Litchfield presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Loomis in Nebraska (Ansley/Litchfield is ranked 22nd, while Loomis is ranked 125th).
