The Don Soffer Aventura Barracuda scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They walked away with a 60-50 victory over Avant Garde Academy. Given Don Soffer Aventura's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 233rd, while Avant Garde Academy is ranked 671st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
George Gould was the offensive standout of the contest as he scored 20 points. Those 20 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Nimrod Amiel Eilon, who scored 13 points.
The win (which was Don Soffer Aventura's fourth in a row) raised their record to 4-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.5 points per game. As for Avant Garde Academy, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Don Soffer Aventura will challenge Ransom Everglades at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Ransom Everglades focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Tuesday. As for Avant Garde Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Sheridan Hills Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sheridan Hills Christian and Avant Garde Academy are at an even 4-4 over their past eight head-to-heads.
