Helix (La Mesa, Calif.) extended its winning streak to five games with a 45-14 victory over Grossmont (El Cajon, Calif.) on Saturday.
The Highlanders were up 36-14 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown pass by
Josh Harris to
Aaron Hardin in the first quarter.
Helix expanded its lead to 31 points entering the fourth quarter. HHS scored two times in the third, including once on a safety.
Michael Adkins played well for the La Mesa school in the victory. The senior running back ran for three touchdowns.
Anthony Lawrence made a difference for the Foothillers. The junior quarterback threw one touchdown and caught one touchdown. His performance brought his touchdown total to four on the year.
The Highlanders went into the matchup giving up only 5.0 points per game. The 14 points that Grossmont ended with were well below its average of 37.5 coming into the game.
When the two teams played each other last season, Helix came away with a 42-0 victory.
Helix (7-1) goes up against Steele Canyon in a Grossmont - Hills game matchup next week, while Grossmont (7-2) locks horns with West Hills also in a Grossmont - Hills game.
