After five games on the road, Evangel Christian is heading back home. Having just played yesterday, they will get right back to it and host the Wiregrass Kings at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Evangel Christian posted their biggest victory since December 22, 2023 on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Rocket City 56-29 on the road. Given Evangel Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 79th, while Rocket City is ranked 293rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Owen Bugnar continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 19 points. Zion Thompson was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Wiregrass can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They claimed a resounding 67-35 win over Ezekiel Academy at home. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Wiregrass has posted against Ezekiel Academy since January 8, 2021.
Wiregrass' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Christian Miller, who scored 18 points. Miller has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Treadaway, who scored 15 points.
Evangel Christian has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 19-3 record this season. As for Wiregrass, their win bumped their record up to 11-9.
Fans should be in for an exciting game on Friday as the two teams are among the highest scoring teams in the league right now. Evangel Christian hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 62.3 points per game. However, it's not like Wiregrass struggles in that department as they've been averaging 57 points per game. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.
Evangel Christian strolled past Wiregrass in their previous meeting on Friday by a score of 62-46. Does Evangel Christian have another victory up their sleeve, or will Wiregrass turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
