The Wakefield Bombers's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They took a serious blow against Goessel, falling 56-27. While losing is never fun, Wakefield can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 316th, while Goessel is ranked 142nd).
Grace Rohr and Paige Smith certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Rohr scored six points along with seven rebounds and two steals, while Smith scored ten points. That was a full 37% of Wakefield's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Wakefield has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Goessel, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-3.
Wakefield will be playing in front of their home fans against Rural Vista [Hope/White City] at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Wakefield focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 32 on Friday. Goessel is on the road again on Saturday and plays Little River at 1:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Goessel is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
