Eastside and Lakeland are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2017, but likely not for long. The Blazers will take on the Lakers at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
On Thursday, Eastside came up short against Westview and fell 5-1. The Blazers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Meanwhile, Lakeland came tearing into Saturday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.1 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Eagles get on the board and left with an 11-0 win. The Lakers might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by eight runs or more this season.
Levi Cook was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted over his last 12 contests.
In other batting news, Keyan Arroyo was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two doubles. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Cole Riehl, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Lakeland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Elkhart Christian Academy only posted a batting average of .250.
Lakeland pushed their record up to 23-4 with the victory, which was their 11th straight on the road. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.6 runs over those games. As for Eastside, they now have a losing record of 10-11.
Eastside might still be hurting after the 8-0 loss they got from Lakeland when the teams last played two weeks ago. Can the Blazers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
