The Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger Saints will take on the Heritage Patriots at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
While Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They blew past Angola 12-6 on Saturday. The Saints might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by six runs or more this season.
Genna Renbarger was a standout: she got on base in four of her five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Garrett, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Meanwhile, Heritage was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They fell 6-3 to Leo.
Danica Fuller put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
Fuller wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Abriyah James, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Heritage, their loss dropped their record down to 8-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Heritage struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger came out on top in a nail-biter against Heritage when the teams last played back in April of 2023, sneaking past 2-1. Do the Saints have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Patriots turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
