Longmont were the big favorite in their most recent match, and for good reason. Everything came up roses for them against Silver Creek on Friday as the squad secured a 43-8 victory. That's another feather in the cap for Longmont, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
After a totally unproductive first quarter, the Longmont offense stepped up its game and put 29 points on the board in the second quarter. Meanwhile, Silver Creek couldn't get anything going offensively, leaving the score at 29-0 heading into the break. Longmont put the contest away in the third quarter with 14 points from the offense and zero points allowed from the defense.
Senior Drake Engelking, who rushed for 137 yards and 4 touchdowns, was a major factor in Longmont's success. Junior Sage Yazzie was in the mix, too, providing Longmont with 2 touchdowns. The game pushed Silver Creek down to 1-4 and pulled Longmont up to the reverse at 4-1.
Next week Longmont take on Greeley West at Location: District 6 Stadium at 7:00 PM. Each of these teams will be battling to keep their four-game winning streak alive. As for Silver Creek, they will face off against Skyline. Given that they both suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
