The Robertson Cardinals came tearing into Wednesday's match with 11 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 20.9 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against Santa Fe Indian by a score of 62-51. That's another feather in the cap for Robertson, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Mateo Contreras was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. His trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. Another player making a difference was Jesse James Gonzales, who scored eight points along with five assists and three steals.
Robertson pushed their record up to 14-1 with that win, which was their seventh straight on the road. As for Santa Fe Indian, their loss dropped their record down to 12-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Robertson's road trip will continue as they head out to face Santa Fe Prep at 7:00 p.m. on January 27th. Santa Fe Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten contests -- so hopefully Robertson likes a good challenge. As for Santa Fe Indian, they will head out on the road to challenge St. Michael's at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in New Mexico (St. Michael's is ranked 61st, while Santa Fe Indian is ranked 43rd).
