High school football top 25 rankings: Chaminade-Madonna re-joins after win over American Heritage

Chaminade-Madonna (Hollywood, Fla.) is the only new team to join this week's MaxPreps Top 25 high school football rankings after beating American Heritage (Plantation, Fla.) 28-24. 

Four-star Texas commit Derrek Cooper had 12 carries for 93 yards and three scores for Chaminade-Madonna while freshman quarterback Malik Leonard connected with Jasen Lopez for the go-ahead score with 2:42 left as the Lions took their first lead of the game. 

Five-star Texas pledge Dia Bell completed 25 of 35 passes for 325 yards and three touchdowns in the loss. American Heritage dropped 16 spots to No. 23 ahead of a trip to New Orleans to face No. 12 Edna Karr (New Orleans, La.) on Friday at Caesars Superdome. Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.) stays at No. 1 after holding on for a 21-18 win over Kahuku (Hawaii). The Monarchs' next two opponents are both ranked as they face No. 21 Centennial (Corona, Calif.) on Friday and No. 3 Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas) on Sept. 19. 

No. 2 St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) and No. 4 St. Frances Academy (Baltimore) squared off in the first top-five matchup of the season and it lived up to the hype. The Braves erased a 14-7 fourth quarter deficit and pulled out a 21-14 win. Four-star Texas A&M commit Madden Williams hauled in eight catches for 193 yards and a score while sophomore quarterback Koa Malau'ulu threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns. 

St. Frances Academy stays at No. 4 despite the loss. 

Mission Viejo (Calif.) jumped two spots to No. 9 after a dominant 53-14 win over Folsom (Calif.) to improve to 3-0. Ohio State-bound quarterback Luke Fahey completed 21 of 31 passes for 323 yards and five touchdowns. The Diablos have a couple of tough road tests coming up as they face Lincoln (San Diego, Calif.) on Friday, then travel to Tennessee to face McCallie (Chattanooga) on Sept. 19. 

The MaxPreps Game of the Week heads to Georgia as No. 25 Carrollton faces Gainesville on Friday at 7:30 p.m. The Trojans improved to 4-0 with a 63-0 win over Lithia Springs last week but face their biggest test on Friday. The Red Elephants are one of the first five teams outside of the MaxPreps Top 25 as they check in at No. 29 in our expanded top 100. They are 3-0 and have outscored their first three opponents 117-28.
