Wheatland is 6-1 against Bear River since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Pirates will head out to square off against the Bruins at 4:00 p.m. Wheatland knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past 11 contests -- so hopefully Bear River likes a good challenge.
On Tuesday, Wheatland got the win against Marysville by a conclusive 23-2. The Pirates have beaten the Indians the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Indians has come to flipping the script.
Wheatland got a massive performance out of Raelynn Hulsey, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Woolery, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.
Wheatland was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .548. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .304 or higher in 15 consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Bear River lost 13-5 to Oakmont on Monday. The Bruins have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive lost meeting.
Adalaide Mason and Macy Martin did some serious damage despite the final result: Mason got on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run and one RBI, while Martin went 3-for-4 with two runs.
Wheatland's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.6 runs over those games. As for Bear River, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-7.
Thursday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Wheatland hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .431. However, it's not like Bear River struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wheatland took their victory against Bear River in their previous matchup on April 1st by a conclusive 12-5 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
