Vance (Charlotte, N.C.) came into Saturday's contest ranked No. 17 in North Carolina, but was stunned by
Hough (Cornelius, N.C.), 33-30. Hough was ranked at No. 56 in the MaxPreps Freeman Rankings for North Carolina coming into the week.
The Huskies led 19-8 at halftime, but the Cougars recaptured the lead on a
Dre'an Long touchdown run with under a minute left in the fourth.
Hough saw its 11-point halftime lead fall to four entering the fourth.
HHS didn't take the lead for good until the the fourth quarter when Long ran for a touchdown.
The Cornelius school's most effective player was White. The sophomore wide receiver ran for three touchdowns and kicked one field goal and four extra points.
Vance's
Larenz Bryant was the standout player for his team. The senior running back ran for four touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to 10 on the year.
When the two teams played each other last season, the Huskies came away with a 21-7 victory.
With the win Hough extended its winning streak to four games.
Hough (4-1) goes up against Hopewell in a 4A I-Meck game matchup next week, while Vance (3-2) locks horns with Mooresville also in a 4A I-Meck game.
