Baseball Recap: Chavez Extends Winning Streak to Five

Chavez came tearing into Wednesday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 9-6 win over the Independence Falcons. This was a revenge game for the Titans: when they faced off against the Falcons on March 1st, they had to take a 11-1 defeat.

Daniel Carrillo was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Benji Perez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Chavez was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .440. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive games.

Chavez pushed their record up to 7-2 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.7 runs over those games. As for Independence, this is the second loss in a row for them and also nudges their season record down to 7-2.

Chavez and Independence should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. Chavez will face off against Delano at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday up 674 places (277 vs. 951). Meanwhile, Independence (ranked 19th) will meet Liberty (ranked 203rd) at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
