The Springfield Longhorns suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Thursday. They were beaten by McClave 56-27. Springfield has struggled against McClave recently, as their game on Thursday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Springfield lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Madison Varando, who scored ten points along with six rebounds. Jaylee Mort was another key contributor, scoring no points along with five rebounds and five blocks.
McClave found their leader in underclassman Abrielle Gomez, who scored 15 points along with seven steals and six assists. Gomez is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Ashlynn Steinbrunn, who scored nine points along with 11 rebounds and six steals.
Springfield has been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-4 record this season. As for McClave, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 9-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Springfield won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Primero at 2:00 p.m. on January 12th. Hopefully Primero focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 back in December of 2023. As for McClave, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Peyton at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.
