Germantown hasn't had much luck against Clinton recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Mavericks will head out to face off against the Arrows at 7:00 p.m. Germantown will be strutting in after a victory while Clinton will be coming in after a loss.
Germantown is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Mississippi's top teams: Madison Central, who was ranked 19th at the time (Germantown was ranked ninth). The Mavericks secured a 21-17 W over the Jaguars on Friday.
King White produced another solid performance rushing for 111 yards and a pair of scores on only 15 carries, while also throwing for 137 yards on nine of 19 attempts. The bulk of those rushing yards came from one huge play: a run that gained an incredible 73 yards.
Meanwhile, while it was Clinton who put the first points on the board on Friday, it was Oxford who put up more. The Arrows fell 33-23 to the Chargers. The Arrows gained 74 more yards on the day, but it was the Chargers that made the best use of them.
Germantown will need to focus on slowing down Jayden Jones, one of several Clinton players who made an impact when they last played. He rushed for 126 yards and one touchdown, and also threw for 122 yards and one TD. Clinton also got a significant boost from Boskey Evans, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 97 yards.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Clinton, adding 11 points to the final score. All came from Braylen Spann: he went 3-for-3 kicking field goals for nine points, and 2-for-2 kicking extra points for an additional two.
Even if they lost, Clinton's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Christian Cavett, Dallas Johnson, and Davon Merchant, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Germantown has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 42.4 points over those games. As for Clinton, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Germantown strolled past Clinton in their previous matchup back in November of 2024 by a score of 53-35. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Mavericks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
