The Mifflin Punchers and the Beechcroft Cougars will face off at 7:00 p.m. on January 26th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Mifflin focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Tuesday.
Mifflin suffered their biggest defeat since December 15, 2023 on Tuesday. They were outmatched by Northland on the road and fell 74-44. While losing is never fun, Mifflin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 546th, while Northland is ranked 173rd).
Despite their defeat, Mifflin saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. John Glover, who scored 21 points, was perhaps the best of all. Glover hasn't dropped below 15points for six straight games. Another player making a difference was Mike Woodyard, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, even though East scored an imposing 76 points on Tuesday, Beechcroft still came out on top. Beechcroft escaped with a win against East by the margin of a single free throw, 77-76. The win made it back-to-back wins for Beechcroft.
This is the second loss in a row for Mifflin and nudges their season record down to 5-9. As for Beechcroft, their win bumped their record up to 7-8.
Things could have been worse for Mifflin, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 84-65 loss to Beechcroft in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Mifflin avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
