James Island had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Stratford Knights on Friday, sneaking past 45-42. Winning may never get old, but the Trojans sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Connor Dantzler was his usual excellent self, throwing for 433 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 14.0 yards per attempt, and also punching in one TD on the ground. Those 433 passing yards gave him a new career-high. Raphael Puiu was Dantzler's top target, picking up 207 receiving yards and a pair of scores.
Stratford's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Meliq McGowan, who rushed for 236 yards and a pair of TDs while picking up 11.2 yards per carry. McGowan's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his seventh straight game with at least 100 rushing yards. Jachin Davis was another key player, rushing for 111 yards and two touchdowns.
James Island's win bumped their record up to 12-1. As for Stratford, they moved to 10-2 with that loss, which also ended their ten-game winning streak.
James Island has already played their next matchup, a 45-16 defeat against Summerville on the 28th. Stratford does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
