It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Freeburg had no problem doing just that on Saturday. They walked away with a 46-36 win over the Highland Bulldogs. Winning may never get old, but the Midgets sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Freeburg found their leader in sophomore Joseph Carmack, who rushed for 193 yards and two TDs on only ten carries, and also threw for 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 76.9% of his passes. Carmack really tore up the turf during one magnificent 95-yard run. Cooper Kisgen was another key player, rushing for 75 yards and two scores.
Freeburg was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 291 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 215 rushing yards in five consecutive contests.
Freeburg didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Brady Kerr, Will Gebke, Kisgen, and Ryan Garland picked up one apiece.
Freeburg's victory bumped their record up to 9-1. As for Highland, their loss dropped their record down to 5-4.
As of now, neither Freeburg nor the Bulldogs have any future games scheduled.
