Mohave Accelerated got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Rylan Krahenbuhl out in front who threw for 165 yards and five touchdowns on only nine passes. Those five passing touchdowns gave Krahenbuhl a new career-high. A healthy portion of Krahenbuhl's aerial production (104 yards to be exact) went to Owen Honegger, who also brought in three receiving touchdowns.
Wins are hard to come by when you can't run the rock, something Mohave Accelerated proved: they limited Desert Heights Prep to a paltry -2.1 yards per carry. The team can thank Laisyc Conlogue for the heroic effort on defense: he. Mohave Accelerated didn't have any issues in that department, having averaged 6.2.
Mohave Accelerated's defense also made the game a nightmare for Justin Aguon, racking up ten sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Conlogue and Jerry Torres, who racked up eight sacks between them. Drake Knight got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Meanwhile, Hayden faced Ray in a battle between two of the state's top teams two weeks ago. The Lobos blew past the Bearcats 68-6. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 56-6.
Hayden's win came from a few key players Mohave Accelerated will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kino Lorona, who rushed for 116 yards and a pair of scores on only five carries, and also picked up 98 receiving yards and two TDs. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 70-yard run. Tyler Garner also helped out as he racked up 130 rushing yards.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Hayden, adding 14 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Garner, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Hayden didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. Alijah Aguirre led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Garner's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 112 rushing yards.
Mohave Accelerated's record now sits at 7-3. As for Hayden, their record is now 9-0.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Mohave Accelerated has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 183.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Hayden struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 288.9 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground. Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other football content.
