Basketball Game Preview: Thrasher Rebels vs. New Site Royals

The Thrasher Rebels are headed away from home for the first time to face off against the New Site Royals at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.

Thrasher is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Ingomar on Tuesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Rebels lost 75-50 to the Falcons. The Rebels have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the defeat, Thrasher got top-tier performance from Brookelyn Roberts, who dropped a double-double with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Roberts' evening made it three games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Makayla McDaniel, who posted seven points and 12 boards.

The home team had won the previous three meetings between New Site and Mantachie, and New Site kept the tradition alive. The Royals simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat the Mustangs 61-21. The Royals have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won three matchups by 40 points or more this season.

New Site's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.2 points on average over those games. As for Thrasher, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Thrasher didn't have too much breathing room in their game against New Site in their previous meeting back in January, but they still walked away with a 55-51 win. Do the Rebels have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Royals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
